Kangal Irandal (Translated into English)- Subramaniapuram Lyrics
kangal irandaal un kangal irandaal
with two eyes… with your two eyes
ennai katti izhuthai izhuthai podhadhene
you tied and pulled me… pulled me, as if that is not enough..
chinna sirippil oru kalla sirippil
with your light smile with one mischievous smile
ennai thalli vittu thalli vittu odi maraithai
you pushed me .. pushed me … ran and disappeared
pesa enni sila naalarigil varuvenpinbu parvai podhum enanaalninaipen naguzhvene maatri
i will come closer to you thinking of speaking to you .. but will think that your looks are just enough for me…
kangal ezhudhum iru kangal ezhudhumoru
vanna kavidhai kaadhal daana
Is love a colorful poem written by the eyes .. by the two eyes?
oru varthai illaye
there are no words
idhil osai illayeidhai irulilum padithida mudigiradhe
there are no sounds, it is possible to read it in darkness too…
iruvum alladha pagalum alladha pozhudhugal unnodu kazhiyuma
Is it possible for me to spend time with you during the point at which night and day meet?
thodavum koodatha padavum koodathaidaiveli appodhu kuraiyuma
will the distance, between us, that generated without touching decrease at that time?
madiyinil saindhida thudikudhe
My heart is beating to lie on your lap …
marupuram thaanavam thadukudhe
but other side my ego is stopping that
idhu varai yaaridamum solladha kadhai
Till now this is an untold love
kangal irandaal un kangal irandaal
ennai katti izhuthai izhuthai podhadhene
chinna sirippil oru kalla sirippil
ennai thalli vittu thalli vittu odi maraithai
karaigal andaatha kaatrum theendathamanadhukkul eppodho nuzhaindhitai
you entered the heart which was not touched by waves and winds
udalum alladha uruvam kolladhakadavulai pol vandhu kalandhitai
you mixed into me like a god without form and body
unnai indri ver oru ninaivilla
I don’t think anything other than you
ini indha vonuyir enadhillai
from now my soul is not mine
thadaiyilai saavilume unnoda vaazha
there are no barriers to stop me living with you even while dying
kangal ezhudhum iru kangal ezhudhum
oru vanna kavidhai kaadhal daana
oru varthai illaye
idhil osai illayeidhai irulilum padithida mudigiradhe
pesa enni sila naalarigil varuvenpinbu parvai podhum enanaalninaipen naguzhvene maatri
kangal irandaal un kangal irandaalennai katti izhuthai izhuthai podhadhenechinna sirippil oru kalla sirippilennai thalli vittu thalli vittu odi maraithai
thanks a lot for it

Really appeciate the effort you have taken to translate this song. it means a lot to people like myself who are not too fluent in tamil.

U may find it strange how I came to your blog. I watched this song on Sun Music many times. At first I liked the rhythm, then the whole melody. Then the video of this simply beautiful. No extras, no props, simple song in a simple village telling normal people’s love. But I am a Punjabi. I don’t know a single word of Tamil, cant read it so don’t know which movie this was, or who the actors are. I surfed a lot of South Indian websites and found pic of heroine in the song and I found out it is Swathi. Then went to Wikipedia and found movie name, Subramaniyapuram and then downloaded the songs and listened to this song and then searched for lyrics. In the end, all the effort was worth it. I liked the song. I would just hope I can find this movie with English subtitles. This is so strange that one Indian knows so less about other part of India.

hey a small correction.
iravum alladha pagalum alladha pozhudhugal unnoda kazhiyuma
it translates as can i spend with you the times that cannot be considered a day or a night. (like dawn or dusk)
This is my understanding. please let me know if you find something better !!!
Thanks

Same here. I am from AP. Heard the song on a Tamil Channel. Its so melodious. Innocence overflows from the video complementing the mellifluous tune. Simply superb. Thanks for the translation. Even the lyrics are so “clean” and touching.

what a wonderful song…melodious….love to hear again and again and also the lyrics…one of the best song picturisation in the Indian cinema itself…congrats to Sasikumar and his team…those good for nothing present day malayalam film directors, dirty lyricists and good for nothing music directors must see this song sequence thousand times…when viewed in the background picture of the loved one, this song gives celestial joy..thousand pranaams to the genious music director of this song…the song gives me energy fresh everyday, it fills me with hope, optimism and the memory of a lovelorn past…..

Who is the lyricist of this song?
I heard this song in Telugu (dubbed version of Subramaniapuram is ‘Ananthapuram 1980’ in Telugu) and immediately (and intuitively)knew that it must be a version of an original Tamil song from the sounds and music and general situation of the song alone. It turned out right. ANYWAY, MY POINT IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS SONG IS REWRITTEN IN TELUGU BY ONE OF THE BEST TELUGU LYRICISTS, IT ISN’T ANYWHERE AS GOOD or AS PURE AS THE ORIGINAL. I LOVE THE TAMIL SENSIBILITY OF POETRY AND HUMAN EMOTION. INFACT, THE SAME APPLIES TO MOST SONGS REWRITTEN FOR DUBBED TAMIL MOVIES…THE ESSENCE, THE PURITY OF THE POETRY IS SIMPLY WASHED DOWN THE DRAIN (BECAUSE LYRICS ARE REWRITTEN WITH A SUBTLY LEWD, LUSTFUL MEANING) WHEN A TAMIL FILM IS REMADE INTO TELUGU, HINDI ETC.
Thanks for the translation. 🙂
